Amy Zygmunt | an Arrowhead Gallery Artist

Note: My legal name is “Amy Zygmunt Houser”, but maintain my maiden name “Amy Zygmunt” for my artwork
Personal History: I was born in and spent my early childhood in Wisconsin but moved to Texas in my early teens where I spent most of my adult life. Art has been in my blood since I could hold a pencil. I had a unique opportunity to attend and graduate from the High School for the Performing and Visual arts in Houston and afterward attended the University of Texas in Austin where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Design Career: Upon graduation I applied my illustration skills to get a design position where I was hired to illustrate 100 banker’s portraits for a bank display. This position introduced me to the graphic design industry where I built a successful career illustrating and designing consumer facing retail packaging and point of purchase print materials for major retail brands Pennzoil, Quaker State, Shell, Rain-X, Black Magic & Gumout products, many of which are currently on the shelves at national retail chain stores. I am appreciative of my time doing graphic design, but it was all with the goal of getting back to my love of fine art. The minute I retired I packed up and moved to Southern Utah to pursue my passion for art.
Art Goals: A little over a year ago I retired, and my boyfriend and I immediately moved to Hurricane, Utah so we could experience the beauty and outdoor activities of the area. Here I found great inspiration and was content painting away in my Utah studio. Then four months ago I became aware of this vibrant art community in St George. I have since become a member of the Southern Utah Art Guild, the Dixie Watercolor Society and the Southern Utah Watercolor Society in Cedar City. I am involved with the SUAG Watercolor and Urban Sketcher clubs. I attend every event I can possibly attend, and I have become reacquainted with Plein Air painting where I hope to participate more when it is cooler in the fall. I can’t get enough. I have so much excitement to finally have this opportunity to explore my creativity and am grateful to be surrounded by such amazing talent. It is truly a wonderful art community.
