Mary Jane Grow | an Arrowhead Gallery Artist
Mary Jane Grow has always been attracted to seeing the world in a creative way be it in painting,
interior design or songwriting. She has achieved accolades in these subjects and chooses now to use
painting to awake a bustling world to the beauties all around us we take for granted every day. She
obtained a degree in art from Brigham Young University and has taught art in public schools, at Utah
State University and gives private art lessons. Being a plein air artist she enjoys painting mostly in her
beloved home state of Utah year-round, coming to the St. George area for the winter.
She is equally proficient in watercolor, oil or mixed media using pastels and inks and using a palette
knife while she explores textures and edges.
She is a colorist and loves to explore different light keys. Each of the four seasons brings with it different
qualities she strives to bring into her art, whether its in full sun or muted light seen on cloudy days.
Trees, mountainous panoramas, classic older homes, rural fields and common plants are what she finds
most intriguing and is interested in letting in the spirit of these subjects into her art. Plein air painting or
painting from life are important keys to achieving this quality in her work as well as working quickly
putting one color note next to another and making use of wet on wet techniques.
You can find her work in private collections, galleries and museums in Utah, Texas, Arizona and
California.
