Sharon Turley | an Arrowhead Gallery Artist

I grew up in Idaho where I spent summers backpacking and camping in the Teton Range,
and snow skiing in the mountains during the winter months.. My parents loved to be
outdoors and taught me to love and appreciate God’s handiwork .
I studied art in high school and the during the summer after graduation, I had the
opportunity to spend 6 weeks in Europe studying art history. That is where I fell in love
with the old Dutch master painters and impressionists, after personally seeing some of
their beautiful work. This helped me to decide to major in art at Brigham Young University
where I earned a BA degree in art and history.
The next 45 years I dedicated my time to raising a family of 5 children and helping in my
husband’s business, but summers found us again outdoors enjoying family backpacking,
camping, and plenty of time on the ski slopes.
Upon my husband’s retirement I rediscovered my love of art after moving to St. George and
taking a drawing class from Roland Lee. He gave me the confidence to start painting and
after taking a few workshops, I decided to put my energies into landscape art where I could
express my love for the simple beauties of the outdoors. I have had the privilege of
studying with wonderful mentors such as Jim Wilcox, John Poon, Scott Christensen, Matt
Smith, and many others gifted painters at plein air events.
